Souris River Joint Board Announces Preliminary Field Work in Velva, Sawyer and Mouse River Park
Minot, N.D. – Design work was initiated late last year and will continue through the summer on the Velva, Sawyer and Mouse River Park Bridge Replacements as a part of the Mouse River Enhanced Flood Protection Project (Mouse River Plan).
Initial plans include the replacement of the Highway 41 bridge in Velva and the Highway 23 bridge in Sawyer. The new bridges will be raised and lengthened, in order to increase conveyance through these areas. The 95th Street Bridge at Mouse River Park will also be replaced, and additional measures will be included to alleviate flooding across the roadway.
Field investigations will begin June 10 as crews will be in the area conducting preliminary geotechnical testing and surveying. Design of these three phases is expected to be completed in 2019.
